Five Minute Friday: Blue

Is there something wrong that the word “blue” makes me think of sadness?  “The blues”  Feeling melancholy… For some of you out there, the fight to stay out of the blues has never been a problem.  If you are someone like me, though, it can sometimes be a daily, hourly, minute-by-minute thing.Water's Edge  And I don’t like to admit that.  It feels weak.  I want to be strong.  In fact, in many ways, I am strong.  I keep going, keep laughing, keep hugging, kissing boo boos, listening to dreams, doing the dishes and the laundry, the dusting and the sweeping.  There are so many moments Continue reading Five Minute Friday: Blue

Dates With My Kids

Mom and NatOne practice we instituted with our kids during these crazy, fun, hard, awesome years of parenting has been “time together.”  The simple name is just what it is – a little time carved out one-on-one with each child.  I don’t remember when we got deliberate about it, but I do clearly remember the first one – the newborn Continue reading Dates With My Kids

Kombucha – my new fave fizzy drink

kombuchaI first heard about kombucha on DaNelle Wolford’s blog Weed ’em and Reap.  Something healthy that tastes awesome?? I had to try it!  I was afraid that, like so many other things that sound great to me (yes, I’ve had plenty of flops learning experiences), I would be disappointed with the results.  Well, this stuff is AWESOME!!  The best way to describe the taste is like a bubbly iced tea.

I won’t go into the history and science here, but there are lots of places you can read up about it online – my favorites include the one mentioned above, Kombucha Brooklyn , and this one on continuous brew at Wellness Mama.  I’m so excited about my kombucha that I decided to make it my first “DIY” blog post. Continue reading Kombucha – my new fave fizzy drink

Interested in healthy living?

Hi Everyone!  I haven’t posted this week because I’ve been busy listening to as maappleny podcasts as I can at the Essential Oils Revolution!  If you are at all interested in living a better, healthier lifestyle then I highly recommend signing up for this free event.  I’m too cheap frugal to purchase the podcasts so I’m trying to listen to as many as I can of the daily offerings.  (Actually, its just not in the budget right now – we are trying to pay down debt using  Dave Ramsey’s Total Money Makeover, but more on that another time.)  I’ve really gotten excited about improving my diet and implementing essential oils into our daily routine!

Thoughts on Mother’s Day

I think Mother’s Day can be hard – so many expectations, so many ways it can fall flat.  Don’t get me wrong – its a nice idea to make sure we take the time to thank the important people in our lives.  Hopefully, though, its not just a “one and done” kind of deal.  The important people in our lives Continue reading Thoughts on Mother’s Day

Name Game

Okay, so at 12:30 ish am when you REALLY should be sleeping because you are not one of those people who can survive on 4 hours of sleep, and you’ve typed in umpteen (well maybe just 3 or 4) different combinations of your favorite blog name ideas and “Reaching Joy” is NOT TAKEN! And your 17 yo dd says, “I like it.” So you go with it… and in the morning you take a 2nd look at your new blog and say “hmmm” Because you are good at 2nd guessing yourself. Because you always Continue reading Name Game

Jumping in…

Okay, so I did it – after reading about it and discussing it for a little while, I signed up with Bluehost, installed WordPress, and…  got cold feet.  Here I am, the money is spent, the domain is mine and my old twin nemesis perfectionism and anxiety come to cripple me and send me running for cover.  If it weren’t for the $125 charge on the debit card that I’d have to explain to Dave, I might have just called it quits before I even really began.  I’ve struggled with that my whole life, too.  (Quitting when things feel too hard or scary)  But a life like that is not what I want!  So, here I go, world – I’m jumping in with both feet and putting myself “out there” – for judgment, criticism, encouragement, and community…
